Catching up to the old ways...

Finally after more than a month I'm back to posting more images here... Sorry for the long break! I did more traveling than usual and people were starting to notice me taking their pictures... While that might work for other kinds of street photography it hinders the "fly on the wall" approach that I am going for with this series... Not sure what was happening... Back to my old invisible self again! ;)

Enjoy this collection of images from the last month... Taken in big intervals...

Why do I like the top image so much? Although summer is now almost over it's still hot and humid in the NYC subway system... I think this image illustrates that well... Not sure what his story is... Why he has a shopping cart with him underground... I guess more things to start the stories in your mind...

She's just so there!

Left and right and nothing in the middle...

It's hot, I told you!

Getting ready to exit the train...

 Scrubs or fancy dress?

 Great hair and eyes...

In his own world or reading the ads?

A case for this blog?

Having to go somewhere or wanting to?

Full of it?

He somehow reminds me of the Robber Hotzenplotz (a hero of one of my childhood books, and actually close to my first nickname...)

Not sure why this series got so blurry...

 Still blurry...

Exceptionally blurry!

Couldn't have it staged any better!

All cool and greenish... Just the exit sign...

Shapes...

Too close maybe?

Two worlds... Inside greenish / blueish, outside warmer and more saturated...

Dominican day parade aftermath...

Lots of commotion...

And emotions running high...

Stripes and shapes...

Just a strange Harlem moment...

One of the classic angles...

A Giants fan?

"Black" I guess...

Power resting...

Friendly!

Tropical imagery...

Intense...

My train to class this morning... Other car though...

Earlyish Saturday morning...

Slightly off...

College freshmen invading the city...

Crisp and angular...

With a tender side...

Strong in color and (muscle) tone...

Stripes and hat...

Interesting... (Whatever that word means!)

Last night when I got out of the subway...

  1. Wahoo, what a production Dirk... I'm always amazed not only by the amount of work but also, more importantly, by the quality.
    You got some beautiful ones!
    Go for a book!

  2. Thank you for your kind and generous words, Vincent! I'm glad that you like this project and the images I'm delivering! A book would be fabulous... Not sure if there's enough interest for something like that though... ;)

  3. Some pictures are very very nice, some are awfull and some are simply "not necessary" ;-) But great work! A question to you, 100 times and more, do you ask the people before the shooting or do you speak with after ( if possible ) ?

    Regards from Switzerland ! Chris
